Soft Sugar Doughnuts (Yeast-Raised)
Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 sachet)
¼ cup sugar
½ tsp salt
1 egg
¾ cup warm milk (not hot)
2 tbsp melted butter or oil
Oil for deep frying
Extra sugar for coating
Method
Activate yeast (optional but recommended):
Mix warm milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and yeast. Rest 5–10 mins until foamy.
Make dough:
In a bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
Add egg, melted butter, and yeast mixture.
Knead 8–10 minutes until soft and elastic (slightly sticky is good).
First rise:
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
Shape doughnuts:
Roll dough to about 1–1.5 cm thick.
Cut with a round cutter (or cup).
Place on floured surface, cover, and rest 15–20 mins.
Fry:
Heat oil on medium heat.
Fry doughnuts until golden (about 1–2 mins per side).
Don’t rush—slow frying keeps them fluffy inside.
Sugar coat:
Drain slightly, then roll in sugar while still warm.
